Abstract
P. Tretkoff: "Topics course Fall 2015: Periods in transcendental number theory"
Abstract: I will introduce the graduate Topics Course I am proposing for Fall 2015. A 1-page summary of the course can be found on my departmental webpage at the link: http://www.math.tamu.edu/~ptretkoff/TopicsFall2015.pdf [1]
A. Poltoratski: "The Uncertainty Principle in Harmonic Analysis"
Abstract: The title of the talk is the name of a large area of classical and modern analysis. Stemming from problems related to Heisenberg's Uncertainty Principle in quantum mechanics, this area now contains problems on completeness of systems of functions in Banach spaces, frames, singular integrals, spectral problems for differential operators, etc. In my talk I will give an overview of such problems. The talk is based on the introductory part of my recent book "Toeplitz Approach to the Problems of the Uncertainty Principle" (to appear in the CBMS series).
