Abstract
In this talk, we will discuss Sturm-Liouville eigenvalue problems in which the eigenvalue appears in the boundary conditions, motivated by problems in Hydrodynamic Stability. We will start by reviewing the classical theory for Sturm-Liouville problems with eigenvalue-independent boundary conditions and then examine two different methods for extending these results to the case of eigenvalue-dependent boundary conditions. We will dig deeper into some specific examples which arise from studies of the hydrodynamic stability of multi-layer Hele-Shaw flows.
