"  A brief introduction to noncommutative geometry "
  Prof. Zhizhang Xie

Abstract

Noncommutative Geometry was initiated by Alain Connes in 1980s. It has undergone a vigorous growth in the last thirty years or so, with its deep connections to classical geometry/topology, number theory and mathematical physics. Methods from noncommutative geometry have been seen to play fundamental roles in the study of various famous conjectures, such as the Novikov conjecture and the Baum-Connes conjecture. The purpose of this talk is to give a very brief introduction to some basic ideas in noncommutative geometry.
