Abstract
The concept of entropy was introduced into the study of dynamical systems by Kolmogorov a little more than 50 years ago, and it has since become a pervasive presence with rich connections to several different areas of mathematics including operator algebras, number theory, and geometry. I will give an overview of the subject with an emphasis on the recent development of entropy theory for actions of sofic groups.
