Abstract
"Nonlinear conservation laws" by Prof. Bojan Propov: In the last sixty years there was an enormous amount of activity in the area of nonlinear conservation laws both in the development of theory and numerical methods for such equations. In this talk I will touch upon the main theoretical difficulties and computational challenges in this area. No previous knowledge of the subject will be necessary.
"Greedy algorithms for reduced basis in Banach spaces" by Prof. Guergana Petrova: Given a compact set F from a Banach space X, we consider a new greedy strategy for obtaining good n dimensional spaces for approximating F. We show, that in certain cases the performance of this approximation is comparable to the best possible.
