"  Homogenization of Partial Differential Equations "
  Donald Brown

Abstract

Homogenization of partial differential equations (PDEs) has a wide range of applications in materials science, subsurface modeling, and even a few more “pure” mathematical questions. In particular, for problems in which there are many scales and high oscillations. Here we would like to have an “effective” description. We begin, in the interest of simplicity and to express the main themes, with presenting a formal homogenization of simple elliptic problems. We then turn to applications of porous media flow and give a survey of some open computational and theoretical questions.
