Title: Sums of Squares in Mathematics
Abstract: From Pythagorus's Theorem to Artin's solution of Hilbert's 17th
problem to state-of-the-art computational mathematics today, summing
squares has always been a useful thing to do. We present a few of the
ways in which sums of squares has been an influential category of objects
in mathematics. We also give evidence that the well is not completely dry
yet, including some examples in modern research.
