Welcome to the home page of the Mathematics Graduate Student Organization (MGSO) at Texas A&M University in College Station. The purpose of this organization is to encourage communication among students, faculty, and staff, and contribute to a rich social life in the department through cultural and scientific dialogue. We would also like to provide an environment where students in the mathematics department can practice their presentation skills as well as view the techniques of others. It is our goal to be a source of support and information for all graduate students.

The main activity of the Mathematics Graduate Student Organization is the Graduate Student Seminar. This seminar is for grad students, (largely) by grad students. To learn more about the seminar, click here.

Title:   Let the tile-installer stick to his tile

Time / Date:   4:00 - 5:00 , November 12

Abstract
Because they are beautiful to the naked eye, tessellations have been studied for centuries, not only by mathematicians, but also for people outside mathematics, as the well-known artisan M.C. Escher. To our days, tessellations remains a research area in mathematics. The intention of this talk is not only to introduce some different types of tessellations, but to give a small sample of the kind of theorems you can find in this research area.

The knowledge assumed for this talk is basically null, so this talk should be easy to follow.
