"  Paradoxical Decompositions and Infiniteness in C^*-algebras "

This talk is aimed at graduate students and is intended to introduce some areas of interest in operator algebras and dynamical systems. We explore different notions of finiteness/infiniteness arising in C^*-Algebra theory and look at some prototypical examples, including the Cuntz algebras \mathcal{O}_n, and reduced group C^*-algebras C^*(\Gamma). The crossed product construction is described and we study to what extent its structure reflects paradoxical decompositions at the level of the dynamics.
